Question…

Antivirus…..?

Which is the best antivirus program????

Answers…

Answer by Mordak
Here is what I use and have found very good. all are free.

Antiviral. (free)

AVG free. Excellent protection available from: http://www.Grisoft.com

Don’t use two antiviral products together as they may be incompatible. If your Antiviral trial has run out, then remove product from your computer and get the AVG installed.

Anti-spyware (all free)

Essential products are: Adaware SE from: http://www.lavasoft.com

Spybot SD http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Spywareblaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Windows Defender – from Microsoft downloads.

PC starter kit at download.com 20 of the best recommended programes for people new or less advanced in computers. Check all three pages, at bottom see Security/Tools/Fun

http://www.download.com/PC-Starter-Kit/2001-12350_4-0.html?tag=dir

C Cleaner.http://www.ccleaner.com/

This will tell you a lot about what is on your computer, such as running programmes, cookies, History, settings etc. and will help you clean up and remove unwanted items. Be careful how you use it as it is a very powerful programme and you should read the help index before you do anything with it.

depends on who you ask. and whether you are asking about pay or free.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (www.spybot.info)
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan’s, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

There isn’t a definitive answer to this one, as they all have their own perks and downsides.

Generally speaking, any antivirus program that offers frequent updates would be your best bet — as your antivirus is only as good as the updates offered.

Trend Micro, Norton, McAfee — all perform ABOUT the same when it comes to detection of major outbreaks.

I personally use McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, as it bundles virus protection with a suite of other protection tools, such as buffer overflow protection, rootkit protection, etc.

If you are planning to purchase any good antivirus software then you should remember some main points before purchase:-

1) Is that one time payment or Anually subcription.
2) Is there any money back policy.
3) Are they providing life time free support or paid support
4) Are they providing free updates for life time or anually updates with subscription.
5) What is price list.
6) Are they providing any other facilities.

With this point you can purchase very good antivirus software.

Hi there,

Simply put, I would avoid Norton and possibly even McAfee. They have amassed a huge reputation, yet their products are falling by the wayside over the last 2 years or so. Many malicious files are now getting through their defences.

Everyone also seems to rate AVG, Lavasot and Spybot highly – although I have a feeling this purely based on the fact they are free, AND NOT because of their protection skills (if you perform some quick research on security vendors and blocking of malware you will find all these score pretty much the lowest of all).

One Security suite I have been increasingly impressed with of late and would strongly recommend at least trialing, is a relatively new program called Prevx1. This is continuing to prove that they detect, protect and remove more malware (virii, spyware, adware, trojans, etc) than all other leading security vendors.

It also works in a completely new way to all other security programs. Instead of catching a virus, creating a fix (or signature) and then making that available for their userbase to download as an update – Prevx1 works in real-time. This means that if a new piece of malware is detected – a fix is created automatically and the entire userbase of Prevx1 users are then protected instantly – no need for downloads. Pretty cool in my opinion.

Lastly, Prevx1 is an All-in-one solution, meaning you no longer need 3 or 4 separate programs installed on your machine (which can also conflict and slow your PC down) to deal with each type of threat.

You can read more information about Prevx1 and/or download a Free Trial here:

Hi, you can try firefox browser.

firefox can fix the homepage hijacked.

it can block any annoying popup ads. it can prevent most of the virus in the webpage, as you know, most of the virus is spread through internet.

Download firefox for free:

Norton is one of the leading antiv, but has a tendency to slow down comps do to over scanning, and is a little on the expensive side.AVG is very good antiv, free, easy to use and has dependable updates to all the newest threats.
